I would like to thank you for being our customer, and this blog is to help you get an understanding of what needs to be done in order to install the EVO FIT Full Entertainment kit properly on the BMW 5 series (F10) and utilize it to its best potential that suits you just right!
Stage 1: Installation
This is actually easier than it might seem, but to do it right, you will need a pair of experienced hands for your car.
Now to get started, what you need is an experienced pair of hands. This is important, as with experience, one knows exactly how much pressure to apply to get things off the hooks and clips in a European car. Packing wires and routing of the wiring harness and connectors need some exerience to execute the install properly.
Getting the plastics off the car is sometimes a little tricky, especially for cars older than 3-4 years. Cycles of heat, cold, moisture, and dust over time make the parts stick to each other.
Contents of the Kit:-

Below is a video that will guide you in detail on what has to be done to remove the stock screen and parts, in order to get the new android screen kit installed. Even if you not in a position to do a DIY install, watching this you will know what are the best practices in order to get a clean installation done for the product you just purchased.
Stage 2: Setup, Testing and Installation
Once all the wires are connected and the screen installed in the stock slot, its time to test the unit for important functions and features.
Now, we recommend you do some of the below tests after installing the player in the car.
1. WiFi connectivity test
This is usually the first thing to start with once you have powered the unit up the first time, is to setup the WiFi. A lot of tests and checks will depend on internet connectivity. To setup the WiFi. you can go to ‘Main Settings’ in the new BMW UI menu or, go to settings in the slide down android menu down.
Once you have opened WiFi, just like any phone or tab, you have to search for available WiFi networks and connect to the one you have created a hotspot for. This can be a hotspot from your phone or a dedicated WiFi internet dongle. Once the connection is established, the new system may prompt you for performing updates, you can start the update process and leave it to run in the background.
2. Google Account Login
All EVO FIT entertainment kits come factory reset. i.e; there will be no Google user id logged into the system. Logging in is ideally the next step you should perform during the setup as, many functions depend on this to even work, and you will have a more personalized experience by logging in to your user id. In order to login, you can either open the Google Play Store under ‘Apps’ or go to ‘Accounts’ under Main Settings, and add your Google user id and password, and acknowledge the Android OS prompts as per your choice. Alternatively you can also create a new Google user id which you can use only for the car.
3. GPS connectivity test
The Most commonly used app in a car entertainment system nowadays is a GPS app. There are various different choices available, most commonly Google Maps, and likes of iGo maps and Sygic maps. Now, you can get started in few moments with testing the GPS connectivity on the new EVO FIT Android entertainment kit. Make sure the GPS antenna is placed in a spot on the dashboard which is open to the front glass of the car.
This will ensure seamless GPS connectivity. The test involves launching the GPS test app under ‘Apps’, and if it’s not already installed, then you can search for a GPS testing app in the Google Play Store, and install it.
Once you launch the app, you will see the list of satellites the system has connected to. The system needs to connect with at least 3-4 satellites for a seamless GPS navigation experience. If you don’t see any satellite connections, please check the connection of the GPS and Cellular antennas connectivity to the screen.
The next Setting is really important 🙂 Without it you cannot hear EVO FIT Android’s voice
4. EVO FIT entertainment unit sound test
All EVO FIT Android entertainment kits directly connect to the OE BMW player and amplifier through the BMW Aux. No external connections are needed to be made, expect for the Top End model 3 series in which the Android Aux extension cable is to be connected to the BMW Aux port under the front arm rest. Now, this is an important test and some do get it slightly wrong the first time they try to operate it. What you have to do is go to ‘Car Info’ under the new Android BMW UI menu.
This will launch the original BMW iDrive UI. Now, press the ‘MEDIA’ button on your dash board and then select the source as ” External Audio Source” or “Aux”. Once you have done this, just touch the screen and the new Android BMW UI menu will launch. After that, you can select ‘Music’ or ‘Video’ from the main menu and play a file from the inbuilt files or an External USB drive that you may have connected to one of the screen’s USB ports.
Turn up the volume knob In your car to be able to hear the sound from the new android entertainment kit. If you are unable to hear anything, then do check the initial connections made to hook up the new screen kit.
5. Bluetooth connectivity and Hands-free test
Once the sound test is successful, you can proceed to testing the Bluetooth connectivity. Select ‘Bluetooth’ from the new Android BMW UI menu, this will launch the Bluetooth menu in the screen.
Search for a Bluetooth device on your phone and connect to the Bluetooth name displayed on the EVO FIT entertainment screen.
Once the pairing and connection is done, you can try making a test phone call just to see if things are working fine. You can also stream music from your phone via Bluetooth to the EVO FIT entertainment kit.
6. Reverse Camera and Parking assistance test
The initial settings for testing the reverse camera will depend on whether it’s a BMW factory fit camera or an EVO FIT Aftermarket camera that you have purchased from us. If it’s a BMW Factory fit camera, then you will have to go to ‘General Settings’ and select the ‘Camera’ as “BMW Original Camera”. If you have just installed an EVO FIT car specific reverse camera, then under ‘Camera’ select ‘Aftermarket Camera’. Now, once you engage reverse gear, then the camera’s view will display on the new EVO FIT screen.
You can turn the steering from the left to right with the car started. If the reverse camera parking grid lines move sideways along with your steering movements, then everything is fine.
You will also notice there will be some controls on the left side of the camera view like brightness, contrast etc and an animated car logo on the right displaying the BMW factory fit parking assistance sensor data. The BMW sensor beeps and workings remain the same otherwise.
7. GPS Navigation test with Google maps:
While you have a host of different Android navigation apps to choose from, the most commonly used GPS app nowadays is Google Maps. If the EVO FIT entertainment system did not come with Google maps pre-installed, you can install it manually via the Google Play Store. Once you have installed and launched the app, and If you have already logged into the Google account earlier, then maps will open under the same account name or one of the other accounts that you may have added.
If you have already tested the GPS antenna for connectivity and launched Google maps, it’s time to take the car for a drive to test if GPS navigation is working seamlessly. An ideal distance to cover would be 1 to 2 Kms. after plotting a Destination on Google Maps. Also, remember your original BMW entertainment system has to be in AUX mode under MEDIA for the sound from the EVO FIT entertainment kit to be audible from the speakers.
8. Optional Upgrades – Android Auto & Apple Carplay test
EVO FIT entertainment kits can be paired with an Apple Carplay & Android Auto USB dongle in order to connect your phone to the EVO FIT screen, and experience assisted driving with GPS navigation and music playback together, so you don’t get distracted as much taking your attention away from the road and surroundings. Most Carplay dongles will come with their own app to launch Carplay or Android Auto connecting your phone through the EVO FIT entertainment system’s USB ports. The setup file for the interface app will be available in the downloads section of your account after the purchase is made for the dongle. This setup will be an .apk file which can be installed into the EVO FIT android entertainment system using the ‘APK installer‘ installed on the system. Once the installation is complete, you have to launch the Carplay dongle app, and then connect the dongle to one of the USB ports. Once the app prompts you to connect the phone, you have to connect the phone’s data cable’s USB plug to the Carplay dongle’s USB port and the charge pin of the cable to the phone. Apple Carplay / Android Auto will launch once everything is connected.
If you have not used Apple Carplay or Android Auto earlier, then watch the videos below to get a better idea of the features and how it works.
9. Optional Upgrades – TPMS test (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
EVO FIT Android Entertainment kits are compatible with optional upgrades like a Tire Pressure Monitoring System, commonly known as TPMS to display on the new screen through a TPMS app. Once you have a USB android TPMS kit with you, the sensors have to be installed in each wheel or wheel’s air nozzle, based on what kind of TPMS kit you have purchased (In wheel or Out of wheel type) This kit will display the tire pressure in each wheel on the App display. Based on TPMS app, the system will prompt you when the tire pressure is too low on any wheel.
